Discourage Heterosexism.
Not homoPHOBIA.

A simple stamp but something I'm very passionate about?

The difference between a PHOBIA and DISCRIMINATION.

Fucking pisses me off.

Homophobia should only describe just that, an actual PHOBIA. People who have agoraphobia don't hate everyone outside. Theres a thousand and one phobias, but homophobia is the only one thats being put in a negative light.
Lets recap on what a phobia is, peope:
A phobia is a IRRATIONAL fear.
This is not a choice. (Ironic isn't it?)
Phobias do not cause hate crimes, they cause panic attacks.

I have a dear friend who has homophobia. She does not hate homosexuals, she is merely terrified of them... she'd rather not be! But whenever the subject is mentioned, her body reacts in a state of panic. When I go to the dentist, I have panic attacks too... do I hate the dentist? No. Will I go to his house and kick his ass for his dental work? No.

Those are acts of DISCRIMINATION.
The same lines as Racism. Sexism. So on, so forth. People CHOOSE to do these things! And hurting someone else just because they believe in something you don't is wrong, in my book. To try and change someones free will, is wrong, and to treat them unfairly just to hurt them or try and change their mind about their choices, is wrong.

So... Use this stamp to help spread the word "Heterosexism" Its a term already being used, by very few sadly, to describe discrimination against ones sexual preference.

Even if you don't use this stamp I BEG YOU to start using this word instead. People with legitimate phobias, such as my friend, are actually suffering because of this, and many gaps towards their own healing are being widened. Its not fair to them, just as its not fair to be discriminated against for your sexual preference.

Not that I don't full heartedly agree with you, I do. But if you corner an animal with sharp pointy teeth does it stand there or does it attack?

Many a HETEROSEXIST has verbalized or internalized a feeling of 'invasion' by homosexuals, and that has been the cause of many hate crimes...A fear. A feeling of being the stand out.

HOWEVER you make a very good point that I will work to spread.

Oh yes, a fear CAN be the root of discrimination~ I'm not saying that doesn't happen... but people who have a phobia, such as my friend, are being labeled as someone who would commit a hate crime and are IMMEDIATELY attacked for it. Because she begins to have a panic attack in the presence of this topic, people around her start yelling at her, telling her how homosexuals can't control it, so on so forth... stop hating, sort of deal... which, in turn, has only made her fear worse. xD Whereas, she hasn't done anything against anyone, though she was starting to before I came along.

But yes, good point~

I don't hate homosexuals, I just don't agree with it. Lately, people are going around with these yaoi and yuri pairings, and I greatly disagree with it, but I'm not homophobic. If I met a man who was gay, I'd treat him as an equal, even if I don't agree with the lifestyle.

*nods* which is another thing people miss... people who just... don't agree with it. Doesn't mean they hate you, just like... I don't like chocolate. xD I don't kick everyone who does though. But because of the people who do, its sadly becoming an issue in which everyone involved is on the defense.
